Automatic Road Defect Detection
Road Defect Detection is not a straight forward process with many types of defect and many levels of condition. Initially areas of distress have to be located. This is achieved by using Fisher Vectors on the road surface area to classify road surface qualities into good and defective. The defective areas can then be scanned to locate cracking and it’s severity.
The system can be trained to locate the following defects: - cracking, potholes and surface deterioration (Fatting and Chip Loss). Special applications include edge deterioration.
Automatic Traffic Sign Detection
A traffic sign recognition system has two stages – 1. Detection and 2. Recognition. The traffic signs are regular with specific colours and shapes in order that they are recognisable to the driving public. Signs are white, black, red, green, blue and yellow. Colours are easy to locate within the images using various colour spaces. Signs are circular, rectangular or triangular. Shape based transforms are used to detect these. Detected signs are compared with the UK Sign Books to give Diagram Numbers.
